Overview of Membership
MAB members have expertise and experience in a variety of areas to help carry out the MAB mandate. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act states that MAB membership should reflect the diversity of Canada.
The Government of Canada appoints members to MAB using a merit-based selection process. The Governor in Council appoints up to 13 MAB members on the recommendation of the Minister of Public Safety. MAB members hold office on a part-time basis for a set term.
Members must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. MAB members must not:
- be appointed to or employed by the RCMP
- be a Senator, Member of Parliament, or other public office holder
- be employed full-time by federal, provincial or municipal governments
- hold office in federal, provincial or municipal governments
