Dear Frances: My sincere condolences on the passing of Ed. Brenda.
Remembering Mr Broadbent's tireless and dedicated work toward a just and kind and equitable world...
As I have been listening to the tributes and summaries of Ed's political work over the years, I've been reflecting on how strongly Ed's values and initial 14 years in Parliament really influenced my life, my outlook and my own values. He led by example, and was a politician with integrity and compassion. We need more people like Ed in the world. Thank you for everything you did, and for the seeds of hope and change that you planted. We will continue to water them in your memory.
"Sympathy is your pain in my heart."
I offer my deepest condolences to Mr Broadbent's family, friends and colleagues across Canada and beyond. His death is a great loss and his kindness, compassion and quest for justice and fairness for all people is an example to all and worthy to be emulated.
Thank you for your honesty, love and care for Canada and its citizens. RIP.
My condolences to Mr Broadbent’s family. May his memory be a blessing
Toutes nos sympathies à la famille et aux proches. RIP M.Broadbent. Merci pour votre apport remarquable à la politique canadienne.
From two grateful Canadians. Thank you Ed.
As a teen I worked on Ed's campaign office during his first time running for parliament. He was kind and glad that young people were interested in politics. One night I couldn't get a ride home. Ed volunteered to drive me home. He was busy, yet he took time to make sure that I got home safely.
To me he was wonderful. He should have been Prime Minister. Rest in peace dear man.
Ed was my professor at McGill for one semester (winter 2001) for a graduate level seminar. He was an amazing political historian and through his teaching and influence led me to vote NDP in the federal election that year.
He taught that it took bipartisan work between the Trudeau government and the NDP to pass the Charter of Rights and Freedoms particularly focusing on section 15.
He remembered me when I ran into him in the halls of Carleton School of Public Policy and Admin a year later.
I have followed Ed Broadbent's life and work with admiration and respect. He will always stand out among political thinkers and fighters for social justice.
Did not have the chance to meet, but, had the utmost respect for as leader and his politics. Caught most of the television coverage . . . A man for all ages, genders and ethnicities.
My condolences to the family of the Honourable Ed Broadbent. He was the epitome of a great Canadian, and upholder of justice and fairness for all.
You served our country so well for so many years.
An example of what “who” is a CITIZEN of Canada.
Thanks. Merci.

wore the name honourable very well. He was respected by people of all political stripes because he was an honest politician. Canada lost a wonderful Canadian. May he rest in peace!
Sending my deepest condolences to the Broadbent family. We lived up the street from his house in Ottawa. I vividly remember carolling at his house with a rag tag bunch of kids and how he'd throw open the door and invite us all in. He was a warm, lovely, human being. I will continue to think of him often.
Ed, you always advocated for the rights of so many. Your life is a testament to that advocacy and to your essential kindness and humanity. Thank you.
Hon. Ed Broadbent Rest in Peace. I was very proud to support & vote for Ed since the 1970’s and loved him for his leadership & humanity, he was a wonderful leader. He gave to his heart to his beloved Canada and never wavered. I miss his voice and passion & respect that he gave as an MP & NDP Leader. I include my late mother’s name, Alberta Cole, with mine since she was a proud NDP’er and would like to thank and honour Hon. Ed Broadbent for his leadership. Love Sympathy to the family.
Mr Broadbent personified the values Canadians hold dear: fairness, determination, and human dignity! His name has been connected to almost every social progress Canada has made since I was growing up, equal rights, workers rights, women’s rights, and democratic ideals. His strength of character is to be followed!
Represented everything good and true about Canada - both at home and abroad. I commit to carrying on his passion, kindness and commitment to progressive values. His influence will be missed. Condolences to family and friends

Thank you for enlightening us across Canada from west to east and north to south that a better society is attainable.
I was a political science student in Montreal when I purchased my first membership to the NDP in the late '70s, and it was because of Ed Broadbent. Un homme inspirant et un homme de principes, il a démontré empathie, compassion et un fidèle engagement pour la justice sociale. He was a true statesman. May his legacy live on.
RIP

A man to be admired, a man for all seasons, an honourable and distinguished man. Canada will miss you Mr. Broadbent, the Left in Canada will miss you more. You taught me a lot, I never got to thank you personally but I am proud to follow just a little in your footsteps. R.I.P.
Remembering your humility, intelligence & dedication.
I had great respect for Mr. Broadbent, whom I was lucky enough to meet and hear a few times. A really decent man and a great leader,
Thank you for your service!
Canada has lost a champion of “ordinary Canadians” with the passing of Ed Broadbent. Like Tommy Douglas before him, as a social democrat, Mr. Broadbent understood that democracy had to have both political and economic components to achieve true equality for all Canadians. His work on human rights, with the Socialist International, and as a parliamentarian was impressive. As NDP Leader, he and his colleagues worked hard to improve the updated Constitution. Mr. Broadbent will be missed. RIP.
Ed made Canada a better place. Growing up in Oshawa, Ed was the first person I voted for. Some 30 years later when I was elected to the House of Commons as the MP for Burnaby-Douglas, Ed sat down beside me at my first NDP caucus meeting. I will always appreciate the fact that when Ed was first elected he opened one of the first MP constituency offices, changing how MPs related to their constituents in a very significant and dramatic way. And so much more... Thanks Ed...
Canadians have benefited greatly from all the efforts of Ed Broadbent and from his commitment to social democracy. Thank you, Ed.
Thank you Ed for your dream for Canada. Thanks. Rev Dr David McKane
Thank you Ed for the cause that brought the better in this country. With deepest sympathies to the Broadbent Family.
Thank you Ed for all you've done for ordinary Canadians like me. You were always our champion and we knew we could count on you. I love the people you brought in to the party & the clarity of the goals you set for us. You set us on the path of reconciliation by ensuring First Nations rights were enshrined in The Canadian Charter of Rights & Freedoms. Well done!
Thank you for your service to Canada.
He was my idea of a perfect Canadian, and I hope we can still try to follow his example.
You were the best leader our party ever had. You should have been Prime Minister.
I was introduced to Ed Broadbent by my father when I was 17 years old. He made a lasting impression on me and I have followed his remarkable career since. A scholar, a gentleman, and someone who cared so much about making the world better for everyday people. My respect for him runs deep and he will, indeed, be missed.
Ed Broadbent is such an inspiration ….. a builder of UNITY among all. He is such a man of VISION and INTEGRITY . His being embraces THE WORLD….,We should never loose sight of the human gifts he had . He teaches how a politics and a a human should aspire to be. Thank you Mr Broadbent beyond words….
I worked for Ed Broadbent's campaign in Oshawa, Ontario many years ago. He was an incredible man, friendly and always for the people. He helped me to get my CPP disability pension and was always available to help people out in any way he could. A great leader who will be dearly missed and his imprint on this country and his legacy will be long lasting.
A man of vision and integrity grounded in intellectually sound social democratic principles.
My deepest condolences to Ed Broadbent’s close ones. May you find comfort in knowing that he was and will forever be a well-respected Canadian leader.
Knew Ed Broadbent when I first worked for General Motors

Sincerest sympathy to the Broadbent Family. When I met him in the 1970's with Stephen Lewis, his political speech delivered a spirited future to Canadians and I remained smitten. May his memory be a blessing.
Thanks Ed for your service to our country and to your party, and for showing us that politics does not have to be so partisan. You will be missed but not forgotten.
Salute to a Trooper, a MENTOR, a Friend, a Gift to Canada ...THANK YOU ED for a lifetime of compassion, action, determination and accomplishments that are inclusive, loving and urgently required...Passing the TORCH to this young generation, knowing they will do you PROUD
Monsieur Ed Broadbent a été une inspiration pour moi. Il a formé mon intérêt à la politique durant m’on adolescence. Je retiendrai son attitude bienveillante envers tous et toutes. Mes condoléances à sa famille et ses proches.
A great Canadian and a needed role model for all current politicians the world over.
Ed demonstrated that politics can be done with respect, honesty, decency, and honour. Thank you Ed.
Ed was one of Canada's best politicians. He was principled and was a man of great integrity. As seen during his celebration of life he provided support and good advice to those who were following in his foot steps. He was genuinely loved by many. Ed will be greatly missed.
Most of Mr Broadbent's time in Parliament was before I was born, and certainly before I was old enough to understand how government worked, but I'm glad I got to grow up in a Canada he helped shape. That I've been able to spend the last 25-30 years looking up to him as someone who shared the same values of making this country better for all, in particular lifting kids out of poverty. He will be very much missed.
Thankyou Ed! It is a great loss to lose such integrity in politics.
God bless your family as they Mourne your passing. It is a healing time for Canada to watch your state funeral and to hear about your honorable personality and public life; thank you for being a role model in life and in death
Dear Ed,
You are one of the best and always will be. You will be truly missed but never forgotten.
