Telecommunications
Shared Services Canada (SSC) is changing the Government of Canada’s aging Information Technology (IT) infrastructure by streamlining and modernizing the Government’s network infrastructure and services, such as voice, videoconferencing and contact centres.
Telecommunications services focus on the modernization, consolidation and convergence of voice, data, videoconferencing and contact centre services. These telecommunications services are highly visible to both Government of Canada employees and Canadians, as these tools and services are used in day-to-day office interactions.
- An example of a modernization activity is SSC’s ongoing work with Government of Canada organizations to migrate from traditional desktop phones to cellular service or Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP), where possible. In parallel, unused desktop phone lines are removed, which contributes to savings.
- SSC is also enhancing the Government’s capacity for videoconferencing to enable improved virtual collaboration from coast to coast to coast.
Benefits
SSC continues to standardize and consolidate the telecommunications network services that it delivers to federal organizations and Canadians. Consolidation results in greater efficiencies and capacity to support the growing demand for new applications and workplace-enabling technologies, such as desktop videoconferencing.
