The Canada Service Corps (CSC) promotes civic engagement among youth aged 15 to 30. CSC-funded organizations deliver service opportunities that equip young Canadians with meaningful life skills and experiences.
By empowering youth to engage in service, CSC supports a national movement that encourages youth to give back to their communities. Meaningful and unique opportunities help youth:
- practice leadership;
- learn new skills;
- grow personal and professional networks; and
- gain valuable life experience.
The CSC provides funding to organizations to offer service placements and micro-grants.
1. Service placements
CSC funds national and regional organizations to establish projects that deliver volunteer service placements in communities across Canada. Youth gain valuable skills and experiences, and contribute to their communities while promoting civic engagement and inclusion.
Volunteer service placements focus on the following themes:
- reconciliation;
- building an inclusive Canada;
- preserving the environment;
- promoting civic and democratic engagement;
- strengthening youth resilience; and
- Other youth-identified themes.
Service placements are available on a full-time or flexible basis:
- Full-time: 30 hours per week of service for a minimum of three consecutive months, within a twelve-month period.
- Flexible: Minimum of 120 hours of service completed within a twelve-month period.

2. Micro-grants
CSC provides funding to organizations to disburse up to $5000 in funding to youth to help them lead small-scale, and innovative community service projects that they have conceived. Youth who receive micro-grant funding have an opportunity to take ownership of an issue that is important to them, propose a solution and implement it at the local, community level, while developing their leadership, budgeting and planning skills.
Across the country, young people are affecting change in their communities by organizing community events, creating care packages, and supporting their peers.
Are you, or do you know someone who wants to be an agent of change in their community? Learn more about micro-grants!
