Watch the Minister of National Defence, Anita Anand, Chief of the Defence Staff, General Wayne Eyre, and Deputy Minister, Jody Thomas, deliver an apology to all current and former Defence Team members and Veterans who have been affected by sexual assault, sexual harassment and discrimination based on sex, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation.


As part of our efforts to restore relationships with those harmed, a public apology has been offered to all current and former members of the Defence Team  who have been affected by sexual misconduct and discrimination based on sex, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation.

On December 13 at 1 p.m. EST, the, Minister of National Defence, the Honourable Anita Anand, the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Wayne Eyre, and the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Jody Thomas, apologized.

Minister of National Defence apologized on behalf of the Government of Canada. The Chief of the Defence Staff apologized on behalf of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). The Deputy Minister of National Defence, apologized on behalf of the Department of National Defence (DND).

The apology took place virtually and was livestreamed on the Canadian Armed Forces Facebook page. Viewers can watch the video stream without an account or signing in to Facebook.. The event has been recorded and is also available on YouTube for those who were unable to watch it live, or prefer to view it at a later time.

All Defence Team members are highly encouraged to watch the apology.
