News Release

September 14, 2017 – Oromocto, New Brunswick – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

As reaffirmed in Canada’s defence policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, the Government is committed to ensuring the women and men of the Canadian Armed Forces have the support they need, including safe and modern facilities in which to work and train.

On behalf of Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Matt DeCourcey, took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony today for a newly-constructed Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV) facility at 5 Canadian Division Support Base (5 CDSB) Gagetown. This $26.1 million infrastructure project ensures our soldiers have the essential facilities needed to support daily operations and training.

The Government of Canada is committed to delivering benefits for Canadians including the creation of good middle class jobs.    This infrastructure project created economic development opportunities for local communities and approximately 110 jobs during the construction period.

Completed on time and on budget, the 6 800 m2 facility was designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver standards and integrates green building concepts. The facility will house 61 TAPVs and provide 12 maintenance bays for vehicles and equipment, as well as classrooms for the combat and technical services branches on the base.

In total, 127 TAPVs will be operated at 5 CDSB Gagetown, with a portion of these already in use. The remaining 66 TAPVs will be housed in existing facilities at 5 CDSB Gagetown. These vehicles will be used for a variety of tasks on the battlefield, including reconnaissance and surveillance, security, command and control, and transport of cargo and personnel.
