Canada Music Fund

The Canada Music Fund (CMF) ensures that a diversity of Canadian music artists connect with audiences everywhere.

The CMF has two components: Individual Initiatives and Collective Initiatives.

These components are delivered through the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR) for the Anglophone market and the Fondation Musicaction (Musicaction) for the Francophone market.

Budget 2022: Targeted COVID-19 support – Canada Arts and Culture Recovery Program (CACRP)

The 2022 Federal Budget included an investment of $50 million in 2022-2023 to provide additional targeted support measure to compensate Canadian arts, culture, and heritage organizations for revenue losses due to public health restrictions and capacity limits, and the hesitancy of audiences to return to in-person activities due to COVID-19. This funding will reinforce the substantial two-year (2021-2022 and 2022-2023) $300 million Recovery Fund for the Arts, Culture, Heritage and Sport Sectors and the $200 million Reopening Fund announced in Budget 2021.

As announced, Canadian Heritage released details of the new Canada Arts and Culture Recovery Program (CACRP) which continues continues the Department’s targeted support for Canadian organizations in the arts, culture and heritage sectors that are still facing significant financial challenges in the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Of the CACRP’s $50 million, $14 million will be delivered through the CMF in 2022-23 under an initiative called “2022-23 Continuation of Emergency Support to Canadian-Owned Music Venues, Concert Promoters and Producers.” FACTOR (English only) and Musicaction (French only) will deliver these resources for the Anglophone and Francophone markets respectively.

Budget 2021 Supplemental Funding for 2022-2023 and 2023-2024

The 2021 Federal Budget included a two-year extension of the $10 million supplemental annual funding for 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 to continue to support the program’s recent modernization; and $7 million in 2022-2023 for music festivals not funded through other departmental programs.
